Using Autocollage to Make a WordPress Heading

Make the header bar stand out

Many of the themes in WordPress allow you to add your own image bar to give the site a feel to better suit you.

Autocollage is a great tool for making those image bars. I cover how to get Autocollage free if you’re a teacher here (and there are some instructions there at the same time).

The task is easiest broken down into 3 steps – get the pictures, make the collage then make the heading bar.

Photo Albums in WordPress

One of the options in LiveWriter is to insert a PhotoAlbum – wozzat?

WordPress with LiveWriter

This is the first post I’ve tried by integrating Windows LiveWriter with my WordPress blog. So what’s the benefits?

As the man says ‘The jury is out on this one’

Ray Fleming put me on to LiveWriter when I met him at the NAACE conference in Blackpool. He was showing it running purely with Microsoft hosting etc.

Downloading the installer was easy enough – but it told me I was running Messenger when I tried to install (make sure you untick the stuff you don’t want). Note to self – set about PC with autoruns.exe and finally kill Messenger. After some simple configuration – here I am drafting a WordPress blog – offline!

Offline drafting could be very handy – I use the free wordpress.com (with options for hosted name, video feeds and a few other bits) and typing into the blogspace can sometimes be a bit numb.

Wow – the map function lets you very quickly and easily add birds eye photos from BING maps. (Is this the world’s least attractive bridge?).

Suddenly – the world of Livewriter plugins becomes available to my hosted WordPress .(For example – Polaroid)

How good are tables in Livewriter? They are practically non existent in WordPress.I made this table in Word, with various options – a copy and paste simply brought the table across with fairly standard settings. Simple lines, standard weight and left aligned text – still, better than nowt!

Warning .. if you want to type after the table then you need to add a blank line after the table insert point.

Just 1 word On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed to coordinate with the overall look of your document. You can use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover pages, and other document building blocks. When you create pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your current document look.
