Sparklebox – Update April2010

It’s still a problem

The document I produced a few months ago is still being regularly used – I’m pleased it’s so useful. I’m quite surprised by something else .. the vast number of hits on my blog being fed by search.conduit

search.conduit is used by Sparklebox – so, if you’re inside a NEN grid, there’s a fair chance that your PC is struggling.

In internet Explorer, right click in the menu bar and untick the many Sparklebox add-ons. You’ll find that searching and file downloads are quickly improved, then see my previous post for removing Sparklebox and its various bits.

The National Education Network

The National Education Network has a massive range of free resources for teachers when working from home. When you’re in school (or inside an NEN connected environment) there are even more!

The uproar following the Sparklebox news was discussed  with a  few people at the BETT show. I’d been helping j2e on their busy stand for the week – and eventually managed to have a good look at the NEN display.

It struck me that by putting together a live j2e web page I could easily showcase the solution AND – more importantly – provide a one stop shop to the NEN resources in an exciting / easy to navigate way.

So – here it is – this is a work in progress, so keep checking back! (At first this will be simply the main links – this way I can make it useful for you very quickly).

Sparklebox Update

Sparklebox is now blocked by EMBC.
I’ve also received confirmation that a number of sparklebox related sites and feeds have also been blocked.
In the last few days, 2 local authorities have issued information regarding reasons for blocking Sparklebox –
